Why go on foot?
- Health - Physical activity improves fitness, and strengthens the body especially the heart, bones and muscles.
- Wealth - Walking, jogging or running is free and will save you money.
- Be happy - Activity is shown to improve moods and combat depression.
Getting started
- Try to go on foot on most days of the week.
- If you are struggling, then start with a 10-minute walk and gradually increase the time until you can get the whole way to work.
- Don't overdo it on your first go.
- If you are very unfit, you may want to start by trying every other day.
- Build it up bit by bit and know what you are aiming for.
Staying safe
- Wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight at night and walk on paths separated from traffic whenever possible.
- At intersections, make sure drivers acknowledge you before entering the crosswalk. Watch for tripping hazards, traffic, suspicious persons.
- Don't wear headphones.
- Carry a mobile phone.
