The BEST awards 2011

The BEST awards celebrate the Best of Sustainability at the Loughborough. The awards are open to Staff, Students, suppliers and members of the public, with the awards ceremony taking place on the 24th May 2011. Nominations were received from across the University for the 6 Categories…

Vice chancellors award for Sustainability – recognises exceptional service and contribution to campus sustainability, environmental awareness and environmental leadership. In exceptional circumstances the Vice-Chancellor’s Award may be awarded to an individual outside the University who has made a significant contribution to sustainability at the University.

BEST Student Contribution - presented to Students who have made a contribution to sustainability either within the university or the community.

BEST Staff Contribution – presented to a member of staff who has made a substantial contribution to the sustainability of their department or the university.

BEST New Initiative – presented to an initiative that has been developed to improve sustainability either within the university or the wider community.

BEST Inspirational lecturer on Sustainability – Presented to a lecturer who has provided inspiration to students to develop a more sustainable future.

BEST Research Poster – presented to the student who’s poster best showed their ideas in a way that was easily understandable by the audience and visually attractive, this award also holds a £300 prize for the winner.

BEST Hall ­ presented to the hall at the top of the Energy League as well as the hall that has made the most impact with encouraging sustainable behaviours within their hall.

BEST Hall -Towers Hall.

To enhance the sustainability theme of the evening all the food was served on banana leaf plates with wooden cutlery and recycled paper napkins, all fully biodegradable, The food itself has been sourced from local and fair trade suppliers used across campus by imago, further information about imago suppliers can be found here »

After dinner speaker Dr Jacqui Glass, Civil and Building Engineering gave an inspirational short lecture on the Sustainable Alchemist » .
