Telephone Handset Functions
The University Telephone System is an ISDX and all telephones connected to the network need to be ISDX and voicemail compatible to be able to function properly. These functions only apply on campus.

How do I dial an outside line?
To dial an outside line dial 9 followed by the number required.

To transfer an incoming call, press the recall button for the dial tone, then dial the extension required. When the extension answers, replace your receiver. If there is no reply, dial recall *1 to retrieve the original incoming call.

How do I hold and call internally?
To speak to another extension when you have an outside call already on your line, press recall for the dial tone, then dial the extension required; to connect back to your original caller, press recall then *1.

How do I pick up another ringing extension?
To pick a call up from another ringing extension dial *3 plus the extension.
There is a facility to pick up a call automatically by dialling **3, but this has to be set up by the Telephone Systems Manager. This facility is for a group of extensions in the same locality to be able to pick up each others' calls.

How do I ring back when busy or no reply?
For ring back when busy, dial the number required; when engaged press recall #1, replace the receiver and wait for the ring back tone.
For ring back when no reply, press recall #1, replace the receiver and wait for the ring back tone.
To cancel ring back, lift the receiver and dial ##1.

How do I set up a call diversion?
To set up a call diversion from your own phone dial #9 and the extension number you wish your calls to divert to.
To cancel the call diversion from your own phone lift the receiver and dial ##9.

How do I use system abbreviated dialling?
System abbreviated dialling can be accessed by dialling #6 plus the three digit code, but this has to be set up by the Telephone Systems Manager.

How do I set up a conference call?
Conference calls can be set up to include one or more outside lines, and up to 6 extensions, with a maximum total of seven lines.
The call needs to be set up on one of the extensions involved in the conference, you can proceed as follows:-

First connect to your (first) outside line.

Press the recall button then dial the first extension or the second outside line.

Press the recall button, the star button, and 4 to include this extension / line.

Press the recall button, dial the next extension / outside line, then recall button, star button, and 4 to include this extension / outside line, and so on until you have all the outside lines and all the extensions involved. You are then ready to proceed with the conference call.

You may wish to have a "dummy run" before using this service "for real".
