How to set up on Windows
-
Right-click Computer or My Computer and select Map Network Drive.
-
Select an unused drive letter. In the Folder: drop down box you need to type:
\\stud-fs.lboro.ac.uk\student-group\groupname
where groupname is the name of the group. On your own computer, click the box Reconnect at logon. This will ensure that the connection is restored every time you turn your computer on. On a Labs computer, do not click the box Reconnect at logon - there is no point.
-
Click Finish.
-
If you are not in a computer lab, the Enter Network Password window will appear.
For the User name type in lunet\username (where username is your University username).
For the Password type in your University password.
On your own computer select Remember my password.
How to set up on OS X
-
In the Finder menu select Go and then Connect to Server.
-
Use the Path for the Group Filestore:
smb://staff-filestore/shared/groupname
Where groupname is the name of the group.Add this path to the favourites; this will avoid the need to keep retyping the path every connection.
-
At login Username and Password are as supplied by the University. We recommended that you do not check the box to remember the password as this is insecure.
For ease of use and access OS X users may add the folder to the 'Sidebar'; if the filestore home folder is in the sidebar and the disk is not connected, clicking on the folder will initiate a connection and take the user directly to the login pane.
It also means that the open folder does not have to be in a visible window. If the folder is not in the sidebar, closing the window will mean having to go through the Filestore home folder to find individual's folder, which is time consuming.
