Staff Desktop XP Non-charged Printer Setup

Using a TCP/IP Printer

In order to install a printer, you must be logged on as a local administrator. The preferred way of connecting access network printers on the Windows XP Staff Desktop Service is via TCP / IP. To use this route the printer must have been assigned an IP address and have a host name. The procedure for setting up a TCP / IP printer on a Windows XP PC is not obvious, so please follow it carefully.

  1. Click on the Start menu, move the mouse to the Settings item and onto Printers and Faxes. Release the mouse button.

  2. Double click the Add Printer icon.

  3. Click on Next> on the Welcome Dialogue.

  4. Select Local Printer and uncheck Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. Click on the Next Button.

  5. Click on the Create a new port radio button and select Standard TCP/IP Port from the drop-down menu. Click on Next>.

  6. On the Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, click on Next>.

  7. Type the printers host name in the text box labelled Printer Name or IP Address: It will be duplicated on the Port Name: text box. Click on Next>.

  8. Depending on the type of printer you are setting up, you may be asked to select the appropriate Device Type. When you have done this and click on Next>.

  9. Select the printer manufacturer and model using the lists. Click on Next>.

  10. Give the printer a name. Click on Next>.

  11. Select Do not share this printer. Click on Next>.

  12. Select Yes to print a test page. Click on Next>.

  13. Click on Finish.

  14. If the test page does not print, review the port settings from the printers properties tab.
