The VPN allows you to access University services which are normally only available when on the campus network. These include the University e-mail and telephone directories, library resources, electronic journals and databases.
All screenshots and instructions below are from an iPhone and will be the same on an iPod Touch, while the steps for use on the iPad are very similar but some buttons or options may be in slightly different positions.
Installation
-
Open the App Store.
-
Select Search.
-
In the Search Box, enter anyconnect and then in the Suggestions list tap cisco anyconnect.
-
Tap anyconnect.
-
Tap Free then INSTALL.

First Use
The first time you launch the application it will request your permission to enable the VPN features in your device. Please choose OK in the pop up box.

Configuration
If you have already used the automatic configuration tool to pre-configure your device for the AnyConnect client then in the Choose a connection... list you will find an entry called Lboro VPN which should be ticked.
If you have not pre-configured your device then you can either go to https://mobileconfig.lboro.ac.uk/ now and follow through the steps there or use the manual configuration steps below.
-
Tap on Add VPN Connection.
-
Complete the boxes as follows,
-
Description: a name for the connection, e.g. Lboro VPN
-
Server Address: vpn.lboro.ac.uk
-
Network Roaming: This determines whether your device will reconnect to the VPN when moving between networks or connection types (e.g. EDGE, 3G and wifi). Turning this on will cause AnyConnect to try to maintain a connection to the VPN server until you manually end the connection (please note that this may lead to higher data usage and reduced battery life). Turning this off will cause AnyConnect to try for up to 20 seconds to reconnect after which it will stop and you must manually re-connect.
-
Certificate: Leave this as Disabled

-
-
Tap Save in the top right corner.
Connecting and Disconnecting
To connect to the VPN server check that the Lboro VPN connection is ticked (tap on it to select it if not) and then slide the AnyConnect VPN switch at the top of the application from Off to On.

When prompted, enter your university username and password into the appropriate boxes and then tap Connect in the top right corner of the screen.

You can now leave AnyConnect (but do not quit it) and switch to the application in which you wish to make use of the VPN connection (e.g. Safari for viewing the phone directory, restricted websites etc.). You will be able to tell you are still connected to the VPN while in other applications as there will be a new "VPN" icon in the status bar across the top of your device's screen.

When you have finished using the VPN you should disconnect by returning to the AnyConnect application and sliding the AnyConnect VPN switch back to Off again. The VPN connection will be ended and the "VPN" icon will disappear from the status bar.
