Macintosh OS X
Staff A0 Printing - Snow Leopard
Introduction
The following step by step instructions are for Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and 10.5.x Leopard printing to charged printers.
There are two printers to configure - A0_cc_plain_hp which prints to plain paper, and A0_cc_photo_hp which prints to satin (photo quality) paper.
-
In System Preferences select Print And Fax.

-
Click the + symbol to add a new printer.
-
If do not have the Advanced option in your Add Printer Window, you will need to customise your toolbar. Hold down the Control key Ctrl while clicking on the tool bar area and selecting Customize Toolbar from the contextual menu.

Drag Advanced to the toolbar.

-
For Type click Advanced to select it, and choose Windows from the menu.
-
The Printer URL should be filled in in the form of smb://printers.lboro.ac.uk/A0_cc_plain_hp for plain paper, or smb://printers.lboro.ac.uk/A0_cc_photo_hp for satin (photo quality) paper. Set the Name to be A0_cc_plain_hp or A0_cc_photo_hp respectively.

-
For Print Using select Choose a Driver or Printer Model.

Select HP Designjet 4000ps (the quickest way to find this is to start typing it in the Search window), and click OK.
-
Click Add to go to the printer installable options.

Select Continue.
-
You will return to the Print & Fax dialogue with the printer added into the Printers area.

Do not concern yourself with the value in Default paper size setting. This is a setting for all of printing, which may as well be A4 or perhaps A3 depending on what your usual printout (on other printers) will be.
-
When printing you must specify the required paper size (commonly A0, A1, A2 - there are cheaper ways of printing A3!) - the precise mechanism depends on which program you are printing from.
Printing to the print queue
When sending a job to the print queue if you are not prompted for your username and password immediately the job will appear in the printer window (this window will open automatically when printing) on hold requiring authentication. Conrol and click the job and click Resume.

Enter Lunet\ followed by your university username, and password. This will release the job for printing, and your print credit will be reduced as appropriate.
