Macintosh OS X
Introduction
There is support for Macintoshes in their binding and authentication to the Active Directory. Mac OS X (10.5.8 - 10.6.x) supports Active Directory as part of the Directory Access plugin. This configuration is strongly recommended if a machine is being run on campus which requires multiple user access. This is in accordance with University and JANET regulations pertaining to the identification of users' actions on machines of any platform. It is important that this procedure be carried out under the guidance of IT Services who will be able to ensure that the correct guidelines are followed.
Central services as outlined above are supported for Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) and 10.6.x. (Snow Leopard) This applies to staff and to students supported under the HallNet service.
For Macintosh machines in a lab environment a PERL script has been created which allows the configuration to mount the Staff / Student Filestore space depending on the login details. This script should only be installed after the Mac has already been bound to the Active Directory.
