Media, Communication and CultureThe Media, Communication and Culture programme seeks to understand the relationships between the production, consumption, and governance of media and cultural industries as well as issues of media and cultural representation and identity. The programme epitomises the Department’s interdisciplinarity, drawing on traditional humanities and social science disciplines including sociology, economics, anthropology, psychology, politics, and history. The programme has three degree pathways, MA in Media and Cultural Analysis, MA in Global Media and Cultural Industries and MA in Digital Media and Society. The Media and Cultural Analysis pathway places more emphasis upon understanding and explaining consumption, representation, and identity. The Global Media and Cultural Industries pathway places more emphasis upon understanding and explaining media production and state intervention. The Digital Media and Society pathway focuses on digital innovations and looks at the way that they have widened and deepened the social significance and impact of media and blurred the edges of what we might consider media to be. All three pathways address issues of internationalisation, transnationalisation and the globalisation of media, communication, and culture reflecting the international character of research in the Social Sciences Department at Loughborough. |
