The 2005 National Student Survey of finalists gave Physical Science at Loughborough (comprising all courses offered by Physics and Chemistry) the highest score of any subject at any university in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The 2006 survey confirmed this position by giving Loughborough the top score in all seven categories for physical science. See here for details.
To understand how we got there, read what some of our graduates say:
MS (Physics with Management BSc/DIS 2006)
"I can't recommend Loughborough highly enough. The department was large enough to offer a broad range of well taught modules, but small enough to know people on a first name basis. The staff (academic and support) frequently went above and beyond the call of duty throughout my course. When you consider this alongside the fantastic campus, union and general experience at Loughborough you begin to understand why the University as a whole is rated so highly. I wouldn't change my four years at all."
TMO (Physics with Management BSc/DIS 2006)
"I have certainly enjoyed my time at Loughborough and would recommend the department to any prospective student. All staff (academic and support) have been friendly and approachable. I am sure that I will look back on my 4 years with great affection."
MW (Physics BSc/DIS 2005)
"In all honesty, I hold my overall experience at Loughborough in the highest
esteem and I can truly regard my time at Loughborough university as the
best era of my life to date! From the very outset of my degree course I was
proud to become part of the friendly and welcoming department of Physics and
could only attempt to envisage the fulfilling and rewarding years that lay
ahead of me. Throughout my 4-year course I strove to obtain the most from
my university career and balance my academic and sporting ambitions. I feel
very proud to have been a part of the Physics department at Loughborough and
to have completed my degree in what I regard as the best department
nationwide! ... The
support of the entire department is most warmly appreciated and will, and
has been, openly recommended.
My Physics degree has included many aspects that I had hoped and looked
forward to, in addition to a few surprises. The balance was achieved in my
opinion with the modular credit system contributing positively to the
choice and diversity. I have really enjoyed learning the material in my
course and gaining the knowledge that it entailed."
KMB (Physics MPhys 2000)
"The programme is interesting and challenging, but the added value at Loughborough is the superb teaching quality."
MS (Physics and Mathematics BSc/DIS 1997)
"I enjoyed Loughborough. The Department is small and friendly and I knew most of the lecturers. The best part about the course was that I could choose which direction I wanted to take because of the broad range of options."
KB (Physics BSc/DIS 1991, PhD 1997)
"The Department had an intimate and personal atmosphere, where the students' well-being took high priority."
